Grandville Eye Care Doctors Participate in InfantSEE Program.
Grandville, Michigan ~ Sitting up, crawling and walking are all signs which show
your baby is growing properly. Other critical development milestones, that are
often overlooked, involve a baby’s vision. When sight doesn’t develop properly it
can lead to coordination difficulties, problems with reading and school, and in
some cases, permanent loss of sight. At Grandville Eyecare, an independent
optical practice in Grandville, MI, caring for the community’s youngest member is
a priority. They proudly participate in a no-cost public health program called
InfantSEE®. This program was developed in 2005 to provide comprehensive eye
and vision assessments to infants between six and twelve months nationwide.
As participating InfantSEE® providers, Optometrists Dr. Scott Miller and
Dr. James Burton perform thorough vision assessments at no charge that include
visual acuity, refractive status, eye movement, eye alignment/binocular potential
and eye health. The doctors also strive to educate parents of the children they
care for about the importance of eye health and eye safety.
“Since we started participating in this program, we have seen children who had
conditions their parents were not aware of,” stated Dr. Miller. “A 9 month old baby
cannot express that they are experiencing problems. The most common disorder
we diagnose is Ambloypia, or lazy eye. This is a treatable condition in a young
child, but for every year that it goes untreated the greater the possibilities of
lifelong visual difficulties,” he shared. “It is our goal to make sure these youngest
patients receive the care they need to have the best chance possible for a life of
healthy vision.”
